Chargers Pound 33 Hits in Sweep of Piedmont JV

The Charger softball team (14-9) pounded out 33 hits en route to a 10-5 and 10-2 (5-inning) sweep against Piedmont University's JV squad.  

Shay Sullins (6W-2L, 2 SV) would record the complete game win in game one allowing 5 runs on 12 hits striking out 7. Sullins would settle in and not allow another run in the final three innings of the contest. 

Micayla McCoy (8W-4L, 2 SV) would take the 5-inning run-rule win in game two allowing 2 runs on four hits while striking out one.

Defensively, Shayla Smith would put on a show making numerous defensive stops in the field and turning her 7th double play of the year.

Offensively the Chargers were led again by sophomore Alia Booth who was a perfect 7-7 on the day with one walk, 6 runs, a double and an RBI.  Lexi Palazzo (4-4, 2 RBI, 2 doubles, BB, R) and Emma McDonald (1-1, RBI) were also perfect in their offensive roles for the day.  Not far behind was Smith (5-8, 3 R, SB, 3B, 2 RBI), Kindell Reeves (3-5, 2 R, 3 doubles, 2 SAC, 7 RBI), Mackenzy McFarland (4-8, R, SB), Hannah Wills (3-7, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB), and Sally Fairbank (3-7, R, 2B, 5 RBI).

Next up for the Chargers is a conference double-header against defending GCAA Champs Georgia Military College.  The Chargers are currently 2-0 in conference play after an opening sweep against Gordon.  This double-header will be Military's first conference games of the season.  Both games will be streamed at JockJive.com on the GHC Softball channel.  First pitch is slated for 2pm at Stars Field in Cartersville, Georgia (2200 Joe Frank Harris Parkway, Cartersville, GA 30121).
