The GHC Baseball team played their GCAA conference opener on Tuesday night at Lakepoint, hosting an East Georgia State team that has been hot of late. The surging Bobcats are fresh off a series win over #18 South Georgia State College last week and came into the game 3-1 in GCAA play. Charger left-hander Jake Lovvorn was able to retire the side in order in the first inning, and the Chargers did not waste any time getting the offense rolling. Grant Bodison drove in Jonathan White and Matthew Vaccaro on a 3 run homer in the bottom of the first, and the Chargers never looked back. GHC would add 2 more runs in the second inning and 6 in the third before posting a second 6 run inning in the fifth, capped by a monster 3 run blast by Brandon Bell.
All told, the Chargers hammered out 12 hits in 5 innings of offense and accepted 5 walks and 3 hit by pitches en route to the victory. Jake Lovvorn grabs his second victory of the season working 5 scoreless innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strike outs. Sam Sowerbrower threw a solid inning in relief before lightning and torrential downpour caused the umpire to call the game complete after 6 innings of play.
The Chargers are now 21-9 on the season and 1-0 in GCAA play. They make their first road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to Swainsboro, GA to finish the series against East Georgia. First pitch on Friday will be at 3PM for a single 9 inning game with a 7 inning doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at 1PM.
