Lady Chargers Face Tough Challenges at the Sun Chief Classic

Gulf Shores, AL.-

A Challenging weekend on the road as the Lady Chargers took on four high caliber teams in the Sun Chief Classic of Gulf Shores Alabama.

The Lady Chargers watched game one slip away early and could not recover in a loss to the Lions of Wallace State-Hanceville. A lack of offense and six defensive errors were costly in the 12-0 loss. Deyonce Lewis, Halie Walther, Haley Overton, and Alexis Davis all had one hit to lead the Charger's offense. Madalynn Morton started in the circle, pitching three innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out three. Haley Robinson threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.

Game two proved a similar story as six defensive errors proved very costly to the Lady Chargers. Chattanooga State started off the scoring in the first with a homerun, and went on to score nine more in the matchup. Georgia Highlands scored only two runs on five hits. The final score being 10-2, a win for Chattanooga State. Montana Ledbetter started in the circle going one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits. Maggie Schandera pitched three and a third innings allowing six hits, five runs, striking out four, and walking one.

In game three, the Lady Chargers stayed in the ballgame until the end, but Central Alabama Community College pulled away with the 11-10 victory Saturday morning. The Chargers pounded out 16 hits, led by Taryn Hitchcock (4-4), Deyonce Lewis (3-4), Alexis Davis (2-5), and Hailey Cronic (2-4). However, five errors defensively proved to be a thorn in the side of the Lady Chargers. Maggie Schandera threw six innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs while striking out four. Madalynn Morton threw an inning of relief.

Game four resulted in The Lady Chargers defeating nationally ranked Trinity Valley (#13 NJCAA).  Georgia Highlands scored five runs on eight hits and Trinity Valley scored three runs on six hits. Offense was highlighted by multiple hits by Alexis Davis and Deyonce Lewis, and a walk off game winning RBI by Alexis Poole. Madalynn Morton started the game in the circle throwing four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and three runs. Montana Ledbetter finished the last two innings no hits, no runs, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Coming up next the Lady Chargers will take on USC Salkehatchie in a home matchup and 2 PM and 4 Pm Wednesday, February 19th.
