Top Ranked Teams Set to Square Off in Marianna

Depending on which poll you follow, the Chipola Lady Indians are number one or two in NJCAA Division One Women's Basketball. Chipola comes in at number two in the NJCAA Rankings but World Exposure Report (WER) and the Massey Ratings each have the Lady Indians on top.

Head coach Greg Franklin's team is off to a 5-0 in the 2021-2022 season and no opponent has come closer than 46 points. The Lady Indians are averaging 94.2 points per game and their margin of victory is just above 60 points per game.

Competition ramps up this weekend for the Lady Indians as they will meet two teams that are in the top 25 of all three polls.

Seward County Community College from Liberal, Kansas, enters the WER Invitational with a 2-0 record and ranked 25th in the latest NJCAA rankings. The Lady Saints are ranked 9th in the WER Top 25 and 23rd in the Massey Ratings.

Number nine in the NJCAA Rankings is Georgia Highlands College. The Lady Chargers are 2-0 with both wins coming over top 25 teams. Coach Brandan Harrell's squad defeated preseason #22 Walters State Community College, 68-58, and preseason #6 Shelton State, 52-43, last week on back-to-back days.

The Lady Indians will face Seward County on Friday and Georgia Highlands on Saturday. Both games are set to tip-off at 5 PM.

Also playing in the WER Invitational are the Lady Commodores of Gulf Coast State College. The Panhandle rival is off to a 1-1 record and ranked 10th in the Massey Ratings and 18th in the WER Top 25.

Gulf Coast will take on Georgia Highlands at 3:00 PM on Friday and Seward County at 3:00 PM on Satuday.

Admission for the games is $5 (ages 13 & up) and $2 (ages 12 & under).
