CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State's softball team continued its record-setting run as the Highlanders won for the 15th and 16th straight times in an 8-0, 8-6 sweep over Georgia Highlands College in a Georgia Collegiate Athletics doubleheader here Wednesday.

Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) shut down the GHC bats in the opener as the right-hander held the Chargers to two hits while striking out eight and walking none.

Hager improved to 12-4 in the circle with the complete-game, five-inning victory.

Meanwhile, GSC's offense provided plenty of support with a single run in the third, followed by three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to put the game away.

Catherine Barefield (Cataula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) hit her 11th homer of the season while Hailey Hooper (Monticello, Ga. /Piedmont Academy) went 2-for-2 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored for GSC.

In the nightcap, it appeared GSC would roll again as the Highlanders scored four runs in the top of the first inning.

But GHC answered with two runs of its own and eventually tied the game at 5-5 to force extra innings.

Both teams scored single runs in the eighth inning before GSC got the game-clincher with two runs in the top of the 10th to keep the winning streak alive.

Kinsey Jones (Aragon, Ga. / Rockmart HS) went 2-for-5 with a homer (5th), three RBI and three runs scored for the Highlanders.

Taylor McClendon (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) and Hooper each had a pair of hits and an RBI for GSC.

Hager came back for GSC in the second game to notch her 13th win of the season with three innings of work.
