In the second week of GCAA Conference play, the Georgia Highlands Chargers took on West Georgia Tech in a 4 game series. After falling in the series opener to the WGT Knights, the Chargers got back on track with a dramatic extra inning victory and a pair of dominant pitching performances to claim 3 wins and the series victory.
Things were not looking good for the Chargers when they returned home on Friday night as they allowed 12 runs in the first 6 innings and trailed 8-2 and 12-6 at different points in the game. Freshman Sam Warren was the GHC hurler who finally had an answer to the hot hitting Knights, and when he was able to slow down the WGT offense, the Charger hitters took advantage in a big way, hammering out 19 hits including 3 doubles and 2 home runs to mount the comeback. Warren was perfect for 4 innings in relief to earn the win.
The Chargers were able to use the momentum from that victory to sweep both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, securing the season series against West Georgia Tech. Parker Orr blasted 3 home runs in the series and Zackary Miller added a pair of his own. Skylar McPhee and Cameron Hearn both added long balls to their season tally on the week and the Chargers pounded out 12 extra base hits in the series. Drew Wilson and Tyler Sellers both went the distance for wins on Saturday, helping the Chargers move to 20-8 on the season and 6-3 in GCAA play. The Chargers will play GCAA opponent Gordon State in a 4 game series starting on Tuesday at 6PM at LakePoint. GHC will then travel to Gordon on Thursday and Saturday to complete the series.
