Chargers Stampede in Opener

After 11 months and 7 days without playing a game, the Georgia Highlands Chargers returned to action with a doubleheader sweep of Bryan College JV on Tuesday.  While the Chargers ran away with the day on the field, the bigger story according to head coach Dash O'Neill was what it meant to his players to be back on the field.  "These guys have been through so much.  Every one of them has been affected by this pandemic and being unable to play this game that they pour their hearts into.  To see their faces today and how happy they were just be out here competing together was special.  This is more than a game to these guys, and I'm just so proud of them and their resilience."

There were plenty of highlights on the day as GHC plated 34 runs in the doubleheader while shutting out the Lions on the day.  Conner Perry and Steven Thompson combined for a shutout in game one, striking out 13 hitters and allowing 2 hits and 2 walks.  Five Chargers tallied multiple hits in the contest led by David Smith who hit a grand slam and drove in 5.

Ryan Getz made his Highlands debut in game two and twirled a gem.  The big right hander struck out 5 and allowed 2 hits en route to the second shutout of the afternoon.  Ben Olson Paced the offense hammering 2 doubles and a triple with 3 RBI's.

The Chargers are 2-0 on the season heading into a 4 game series with Snead State on Thursday and Saturday.  First pitch Thursday is at 1PM at Lakepoint.
