Atlanta native James Williams begins his first season at GHC as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach on Dash O’Neill’s staff. In addition to those duties, Coach Williams will instruct the outfielders in their day to day defensive work. Coach Williams comes to Cartersville from Mobile, Alabama where he served as the Jaguars' Director of Player Development during the 2023 season. While at South Alabama, Coach Williams assisted with the pitchers and catchers and saw three of his players drafted in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
Prior to his time in Mobile, James served as the Director of Player Development and Bullpen Coach at his alma matter, the University of Georgia. The bulldogs went 46-17 during the 2019 season, going 21-9 in Southeastern Conference Play, and they earned a seed in the NCAA National Tournament. During his stint with the Bulldogs, UGA had a record of 91-46, 3 All-Americans, 3 freshman All-Americans, 3 All SEC selections, and 2 All freshman SEC players. A graduate of Harrison High School, Williams was an All-Region pitcher, catcher, and third baseman for the Hoyas, lettering in all four seasons. He helped lead Harrison to the final four of the GHSA AAAAAA state tournament. Coach Williams attended the University of Georgia (2017-20), where he saw action both on the mound and behind the plate while lettering in three seasons. Georgia won 39 games in 2018, hosting a regional in Athens before falling in the finals. James earned SEC Honor Roll in 2017-19 and graduated with a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Georgia.
