Behind former Model High standout VJ Saxton's 23 points the Chargers get the 99-82 win over Walters State. Walters State had their first lead of the game, 7-6 at the 17:00 minute mark of the first half and that was the only lead they would have the entire game. The Chargers led 51-31 at the half. The Chargers stifling defensive forced Walters to 25 turnovers and the Chargers shot 6 for 12 from the 3 point line in the second half to close out the game.
"We played as good of a first half as we have all year, we solidly beat a good Walters State team today, " said Charger head coach Phil Gaffney. The Chargers were led by VJ Saxton with 23 points and 8 rebounds, Khalyl Waters had 19,Carl Johnson had 16, Derrick Cook added 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, and Jalen Knight had 10.
With the win the Chargers go to 3-1 on the season and return to action on Friday as the travel to North Carolina to take on Cape Fear College. Tip Off 5:00pm.
