Chargers advance to NJCAA Region XVII Championship Game

The Chargers for the second night in a row upset the higher seed, tonight stunning the #1 seed Andrew College Tigers 92-80 to advance to the NJCAA Region XVII Championship. The Chargers have fought through adversity all year due to injuries,  losing 3 players for the season found a way and are now in the championship game. GHC fought to keep the game close in the first half with the game tied at 35 at the half. The Chargers took a 15 point lead at the 13:10 mark of the second half, their largest of the game but the Tigers battled back to cut the Chargers lead to 6 late in the second half. The Tigers had to foul and the Chargers made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win. " I am so proud how this team has fought through all the adversity this year, we have had so many injuries, but they found a way to battle and overcome every obstacle, " said Charger head coach Phil Gaffney. The Chargers were once again led by GCAA Freshman Player of the Year Carl Johnson with 29 points, Khalyl Waters had 20 points, and Chris Wright battled through a sore ankle to score 20 points. The Chargers advance to the Championship game on Saturday at 3:00pm verses #2 seed Central Georgia Tech.
