Georgia Highlands survived a late surge by Chattahoochee Valley Friday night to secure their third straight win and sixth of the season. GHC improves to 6-4 on the young season, while CVCC falls to 2-9. Rome native Jay’Quan Nelson led the team in scoring with 16 points while Jordan Johnson scored 13. Eleven different Chargers scored in the contest.
The first half was all GHC as they unleashed a barrage of three-pointers. Overall, the Chargers shot 33 three-pointers in the game, sinking 12 of them. They shot 50% from behind the arc in the 1st half. GHC went into the halftime with a 50-29 lead and extended that lead to by as much as 26 points with 14:30 left in the game.
But the Pirates would not go quietly into the night. Kameron Fowler led the comeback attempt, and CVCC got to within seven points with just a few minutes left. But the Chargers held off the Pirates and secured the win.
GHC returns to action Saturday in a rematch against Palmetto State. The Chargers cruised to a 113-39 win over PSCC last weekend at Gordon State.
