GHC fell just short of a comeback in their conference opener at Gordon State Wednesday night in Barnesville, 76-72.
The Highlanders jumped out to a quick lead, ahead 22-6 at one point in the first half. The Chargers closed the gap to 10 points at halftime and got as close as 4 in the waning minutes of the game, but the Highlanders held onto the lead and never relinquished.
Cameron Baldwin logged a double-double for the Charges with 13 points against 13 rebounds, and Jah’kim Payne led the scoring with 14 points. Jay’Quan Nelson added 12 points, while Isaiah Logan added 10.
The Chargers are slated to return to action at home Saturday against East Georgia State, but the winter weather warning may push that to be postponed. An announcement will be made later on that status.
