East Georgia Bobcats Sweep Chargers in Weekend Double-Header

East Georgia Bobcats Sweep Chargers in Weekend Double-Header

Saturday, March 20th, the Highlands softball team hopped on a bus and traveled down to Swainsboro, Georgia to take on the Bobcats of East Georgia State.

In game one, East Georgia struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. These two runs were left unanswered by the Chargers until the top of the seventh when Natalia Herrera scored Madison Bennett on a double to centerfield. In the same frame, Lacey Rutledge hits a double to center scoring Natalia Herrera. With these two runs scored, the game was all tied up heading into the bottom of the seventh frame. Unfortunately, the Chargers had some pitching miscues allowing East Georgia to score the walk off run. End score was 3-2, East Georgia State with a win.

Natalia Herrera led the offensive effort of the Chargers going 2-4 in her at bats, also tallying an RBI. Lacey Rutledge tallied a hit and an RBI. Hailey Cronic and Madison Bennett also tallied one hit each in the game.

Montana Ledbetter took the rubber for the Chargers in game one. Ledbetter pitched six innings allowing four hits, two earned runs, five walks, while punching out nine of the Bobcats. Madalyn Morton came in on relief in the seventh.

Game two the Bobcats struck first again scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Chargers did not make adjustments until late in the game scoring one in the top of the sixth, when Lacey Rutledge reached first on an error scoring Madison Bennett from third. The late inning rally proved not enough to overcome the Bobcats lead. Bobcats win 5-1.

Maggie Schandera started in the circle going two innings allowing five earned runs while striking out one. Madalyn Morton threw the remaining 3.2 innings allowing only two hits while striking out five of the Bobcats.

Madison Bennett hit 3-3 in the game. Lacey Rutledge and Halie Walther also tallied a hit each.
