Softball Completes Regular Conference Play: Splits with ABAC, Sweeps South GA State

Chargers' softball traveled down south for the weekend to take on the ABAC Fillies and the Hawks of South GA State to close out the GCAA regular conference play.  

 

Saturday Afternoon featured the doubleheader action with ABAC. Game one proved a tough one for the Chargers as they lost game one with a score of 3-7. This loss snapped the 10-game winning streak the Chargers had going on.  

Madalyn Morton started game one throwing four innings. Morton allowed five hits, five runs, five earned runs, and collected two strikeouts. Maggie Schandera finished out the game by throwing two innings. Schandera allowed four hits, two earned runs, and collected two strikeouts 

Lacey Rutledge led the offense with a hit and two RBIs. Madison Bennet was 3-4 at the plate with a single, double, and a triple. Allison Daffron collected a hit and an RBI. Hailey Cronic and Halie Walther collected a hit a piece.  

Game two the Chargers bounced back, winning 5-1. Natalia Herrera led the offensive front going 2-4 at the plate collecting two RBIs. Lacey Rutledge collected two hits and an RBI. Allison Daffron collected a hit and an RBI. Madison Bennett went 2-3 at the plate with a single and a double. Bradey Tharp and Kyndal Brown also collected singles in game two.  

Montana Ledbetter pitched all seven innings of game two allowing two hits, zero earned runs, and collected six strikeouts.  

 

Day two of the weekend featured a double header with South GA to close out the weekend. Game one featured a slug fest between the Chargers and the Hawks, but the Chargers took game one 12-9.  

Lacey Rutledge was a perfect 5-5 in game one collecting four singles and a tripleHannah Bobo was 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Allison Daffron had a hit collecting two RBIs. Maddie Hairston and Hailey Cronic collected singles and an RBI each. Taryn Hitchcock collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Madison Bennet was 2-5 with a single and a double. Bradey Tharp hit 2-3 at the plate, and Kyndal Brown also collected two hits.  

Maggie Schandera started game one throwing 3.2 innings. Schandera allowed seven hits, four earned runs, a walk, and struck out one of the Hawks. Madalyn Morton threw three innings allowing a hit, one earned run, five walks, and struck out two. Gracee Ellis also threw in game one.  

 

In game two, Montana Ledbetter shut down the Hawk’s offense throwing the complete seven inning shutout. She allowed only six hits, zero runs or earned runs, two walks, and struck out nine of the home teams batters. Chargers win game two 7-0.  

Hailey Cronic hit 2-4 in game two collecting two RBIs. Lacey Rutledge also connected for a hit and two RBIs. Allison Daffron smacked a triple and collected an RBI. Haley Overton went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI as well. Madison Bennett hit 2-5 at the plate with two singles. Maddie Hairston, Alexis Poole, and Bradey Tharp all collected hits in game two as well. 

 

Big Congrats to Montana Ledbetter and Lacey Rutledge who swept the GCAA Pitcher and Player of the week in the final week of conference play!
