Thursday opened up the first round of GCAA Conference Playoffs as Georgia Highlands Softball took on the Tigers of Andrew College at Star’s field in Cartersville.

Chargers offense started hot scoring all three runs of the game in the first inning. Madison Bennett smacked a line drive homer to jumpstart the game. Two batters later Maddy Hairston strode to the plate and moon shot a ball over the left field fence scoring herself and Lacey Rutledge. Lacey Rutledge, Hailey Cronic, Bradey Tharp, and Kyndal Brown all recorded singles a piece in game one. Chargers win 3-0.

Montana Ledbetter had a stellar outing in the circle for the Chargers. Ledbetter threw all seven innings allowing only three hits, zero runs, and three walks. She struck out seven of the Tiger’s offense.

Game two featured a bit more offensive power from the Chargers. Lacey Rutledge led the offense going 3-4 at the plate with a homer, double, and a single with three RBIs. Allison Daffron also went 3-4 at the plate with three singles. Taryn Hitchcock went 2-4 at the plate with two singles and an RBI. Kyndal Brown recorded a double. Madalyn Morton also had a stellar outing throwing all seven innings. Morton allowed only three hits, zero earned runs, one walk, and struck out four of the Tigers.

Timely hitting, stellar shutout pitching appearances, and solid defense helped Georgia Highlands to push past Andrew College in the first round of GCAA conference playoffs. Round two the Chargers will travel to Barnesville on Tuesday to take on Georgia Military College. Chargers split with the bulldogs in the four games played in regular conference.
