Softball Splits In Conference Opener with Georgia Military

The clouds and rain rolled away, the sun came out, and the weather was perfect for the Georgia Highlands College Chargers as they traveled to Milledgeville, Georgia to open up the conference season versus Georgia Military. 

In game one, the Chargers came out bats a blazing hanging two runs on the bulldogs. GMC answered with one run in the bottom of the second, to which Highlands answered with two more runs. Highlands went on to score two more in the top of the fifth. The bulldogs brought together a late inning rally scoring one in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the bottom of the third. Final score proved a Chargers win 6-5.

The offensive effort was highlighted by Izzy Marcotte who went 2-2 at the plate including two homeruns and four RBIs. Taryn Hitchcock also tallied two hits of her own. Lacey Rutledge had a double scoring two of the Chargers. Haley Overton, Natalia Herrera, and Allison Daffron also scattered a hit each in the game.

Montana Ledbetter obtained the win in the circle for Highlands throwing six complete innings. Ledbetter allowed three hits while striking out four of the bulldogs. Maggie Schandera pitched the last frame securing the win for the Chargers.

Game two proved to be a tougher challenge for the Chargers. Again, the Chargers came out scoring one in the first. However, the bulldogs answered with six of their own in the bottom of the second frame. The bulldogs went on the tally four more runs through the game, while the Chargers only answered with one in the top of the third. Chargers dropped game two 10-2.

Madalyn Morton started this game throwing two innings allowing four hits in the two frames. Maggie Schandera and Montana Ledbetter shared time in the circle through the finish of game two.

Lacey Rutledge and Izzy Marcotte both tallied RBIs scoring the two runs for the Chargers. Halie Walther and Allison Daffron also added hits.

Georgia Highlands is back in action Saturday, playing East Georgia in a conference match up down in Swainsboro, Georgia. Games are set to play at 1 and 3PM.
