Charger's softball started out Conference play on the road in Tifton, Georgia in a double header versus Abraham Baldwin College.
Georgia Highlands College defeated ABAC Fillies 9-8 on Saturday after taking the lead late game one. The game was tied at five with Highland's batting in the top of the sixth when Madison Dennis singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Dennis collected four hits in four at bats to help lead the Chargers to victory. Dennis doubled in the first, homered in the third, homered in the fifth, and singled in the sixth. The Chargers tallied ten hits in game one, including a solo home run by Malone Aldridge. Dennis and Bradey Tharp both collected multiple hits for Highlands. Highlands's defense didn't commit a single error in the field. Hailey Cronic had the most chances in the field with seven.
Gracee Ellis got the start for the Chargers. The righthander surrendered five runs on six hits over three innings, striking out one. Maggie Schandera came in for relief throwing three innings. Schandera allowed four hits and one earned run. Katie Traynor finished out the seventh inning allowing just one hit and one run.
Charger's softball watched game two slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to the Fillies in game two, Saturday. Haley Robinson was in the circle for Georgia Highlands. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while walking one.
Haley Overton, Kyndal Brown, Madison Dennis, Bradey Tharp, and Robinson all had one hit to lead Georgia Highlands. Robinson and Overton recorded doubles in game two.
Sunday
Highlands fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 13-5 loss to South Georgia State in game one Sunday. Highland's defense committed five errors in the game. Maggie Schandera toed the rubber for the Chargers. Schandera surrendered five runs on two hits, walking one. Gracee Ellis threw five and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen allowing ten hits and five earned runs.
Georgia Highland's Offense notched five runs in the fourth inning. Offense in the inning came from singles by Madison Dennis and Haley Overton and an error on a ball put in play by Emma Veitch. The Chargers collected eight hits. Overton and Hailey Cronic each racked up multiple hits for Georgia Highlands. Overton went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits. Chargers tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Dennis led the way with two.
Charger's Offense put up five runs in the fourth on its way to a 9-1 victory over SGSC in game two Sunday. Audrey Johnson, Madison Dennis, Hailey Cronic, and Allison Deweese all drove in runs in the frame. Offense got things started in the first inning. Cronic drove in one run on a single. Georgia Highlands put up five runs in the fourth inning. Big bats were led by Johnson, Dennis, Cronic, and Deweese, all driving in runs in the inning. The Chargers saw the ball well in game two, racking up 11 hits in the game. Johnson, Haley Overton, and Cronic all had multiple hits for Highlands. Johnson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.
Haley Robinson was in the circle for Georgia Highlands. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out five and walking one. Georgia Highlands was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Cronic made the most plays with nine, and Allison Deweese had five put outs.
Tuesday
The Chargers showed up late offensively, and Andrew College pulled away late in a 9-6 victory in game one Tuesday. Despite the loss, Georgia Highlands did collect 14 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Andrew had 15 hits on the way to victory. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Georgia Highlands tied things up at six when Haley Overton singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Chargers scored four runs in the fifth inning. The rally was led by home runs by Hailey Cronic and Allison Deweese, and a single by Audrey Johnson. Charger's offense totaled 14 hits in the game. Johnson, Cronic, Deweese, and Overton each managed multiple hits for Highlands. Johnson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.
Haley Robinson was in the pitcher's circle for Georgia Highlands. Robinson lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Katie Traynor and Maggie Schandera entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively. Defense for the Chargers struggle as the field committed four errors in game one.
Andrew scored four runs in the first inning, but the Chargers still won 7-6 in game two. In the bottom of the third inning, Georgia Highlands College Chargers tied things up at four. Audrey Johnson drove in four when Johnson smacked her first Grand slam as a Charger. Highlands pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Madison Dennis homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Georgia Highlands tallied seven hits in the game. Johnson, Dennis, and Haley Overton all had multiple hits. Overton, Dennis, and Johnson all had two hits to lead Georgia Highlands.
