Chargers Sweep Cleveland State On The Road
Down 2-1 in the top of the seventh, the Chargers used some Cougar miscues and a long home run off the bat of Ryan Martin for 10 runs to claim an 11-4 victory in game two of their "home and home" series against Cleveland State this weekend. Heath Whitlock got the rally started with a walk, and then the wheels just fell off for the Cougars, who couldn't seem to stop the bleeding. Head Coach Dash O'Neill said the momentum change was the key. "They put the first two guys on for free, so I knew we had a shot to make something happen, and it just seemed to keep snowballing in our favor. When Marty hit the homer, I think we were able to get in the driver's seat for the rest of the day." The Chargers grabbed a 3 run lead in the final game of the weekend on a pair of home runs by sophomore Grayson Godbee and freshman Heath Whitlock. They added another two runs later in the game and rode strong pitching performances by starter Heath Whitlock and relievers Braxton Wade and Kaiden Krak to win 5-1. The victories push the Chargers record to 3-0 on the season. GHC will be back in action next Friday and Saturday for a four game series against Pellissippi State College at Commander Robert Bentley Field.
