The Georgia Highlands men’s basketball team returned to the win column Thursday with a thrilling 78-74 victory over Gadsden State (AL) in Rome. The contest featured 13 lead changes and seven ties, with the Chargers finally pulling ahead in the final two minutes.
GHC held a 41-36 advantage at halftime but could never fully separate. Midway through the second half, Gadsden surged ahead by nine with 8:50 remaining. The Chargers responded with relentless defense, timely rebounds, and clutch free throws to reclaim the lead down the stretch.
Braylen Smith (Augusta Christian HS) paced GHC with an impressive 30 points. Joshua Bryant (Dominion Christian HS) and Justen Goudelock (Athens Christian HS) added 15 points apiece, while Justin Rushin (Westminster Catawba) contributed seven rebounds and six assists.
The win improves the Chargers to 2-6 on the season. They’ll look to keep the momentum going Saturday when they host Chattanooga State CC at 3 p.m. in Rome.
