Chargers Volleyball Secures First-Ever Program Win in Five-Set Thriller
ROME, Ga- The Georgia Highlands College volleyball team made history Wednesday night, earning its first program victory with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Wesleyan College at home. The triumph brings the Chargers to 1-14 on the season, with only a home-and-home series against Toccoa Falls College remaining.
GHC came out strong, dominating the first two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-12 against their NCAA Division III opponent. However, Wesleyan responded, edging out the Chargers in sets three and four, both by a narrow 25-23 margin.
In the decisive fifth set, the Chargers seized momentum early and never looked back, closing out the match and securing a milestone victory for the young program.
Vanessa Johnson (Cartersville HS) and Sophia Senegal (Praise Christin Academy) led the offensive charge with 19 kills apiece. Johnson also contributed defensively with five solo blocks. Abby Farr (Adairsville HS) added seven kills to round out the attack.
GHC will travel to Toccoa Falls on Friday before returning home the following week to host the Eagles in their final match of the season, which will also serve as part of the college’s Homecoming celebration.
