GSC Baseball Splits With Georgia Highlands

EMERSON, Ga. – Gordon State rebounded from a 10-0 loss in the first game of its doubleheader with Georgia Highlands College with a 10-3 victory in game two to gain a split in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) action here Saturday afternoon.

GHC used the big inning to put away GSC in the seven-inning game as the Chargers scored twice in the bottom of the first, then added four-run outbursts in the third and fifth to the game away.

Derek Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) and Trevor Knowles (Folkston, Ga. / Charlton Co. HS) each had two hits for GSC, including a double by Knowles.

In the nightcap, GSC was hanging on to a 3-2 lead after six innings when the Highlanders scored twice in the top of the seventh and added four more in the eighth to take a 10-2 lead.

GHC got a single run in the bottom of the ninth before GSC finished off the seven-run win.

Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) and Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) each homered for GSC and spearheaded the 10-run, 16-hit attack.

O'Saben missed the cycle by a single after he added a double and a triple in the game in which he went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Meanwhile, Kuchinski went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.

Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS) added two hits and a run for the Highlanders (15-12 overall, 6-4 GCAA).

Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Ga. / Stephens Co. HS) went six strong innings on the mound while allowing just one earned run on eight hits, striking out four and didn't walk a batter.

Preston Felt (Buford, Ga. / Flowery Branch HS) got the three-inning save with one earned run allowed on three hits while striking out one and no walks.
