In the first of game of a two team doubleheader on Thursday, the Georgia Highlands Chargers faced off against Shorter University's Junior Varsity team. The Chargers started the game in exciting fashion, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first and piling on 5 more by the end of the game. In total, GHC posted 16 hits in the ballgame, led by freshman catcher Parker Orr, who went 4-5 with a double and 3 RBI's. Bryson Horne also had a big game, hammering 3 doubles with an RBI and 3 runs scored. After Jeremiah Woods held Shorter scoreless for 2.1 innings, Connor Dove got credit for the win despite allowing 4 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in 3.2 innings of work. Brady Barker threw a strong 2 innings and Skylar McPhee struck out the side in the ninth inning en route to his third save of the year.
In game two freshman Jake Meyer struck out 10 batters in 5 innings to earn a win in his first career start, and the offense continued to roll against the Chargers' second opponent of the day, Emmanuel College. Meyer was a little shaky in the first inning, loading the bases with 1 out, but he worked his way out of the jam by striking out two hitters. He would cruise through the end of the 5th before giving way to Travis Kuebler, who was also dominant in his inning and a third of work. Bryson Horne had a pair of hits, including his fourth double fo the day, and he collected 3 RBI's in the game. Five other Charger hitters recorded at least 2 hits in the ballgame as the offense mounted a second consecutive 16 hit attack.
The victories move GHC's record to 10-4 on the season as they welcome NJCAA DII #10 Sinclair Community College this weeked for a three game series. GHC and Sinclair will play a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday followed by a single game at noon on Sunday.
