The Charger Baseball team salvaged a split with GCAA rival Gordon State on Saturday after the teams traded decisive victories in the first three games of the series. In the opener, Alex Holdbrooks was outstanding through 8 innings to earn the win, and he was supported by 10 runs, including long home runs by Zach Miller and Parker Orr. Big innings were the undoing for GHC in the next two games. With the score knotted at 3-3 in the 8th inning of game two, Gordon plated 6 runs off a trio of Charger pitchers, and in a similar rally in game three they scored 5 in the 4th inning to claim back to back wins to tilt the series at 2-1 in their favor.
The Chargers answered the call in the 4th game, however, scoring 7 runs in the first 4 innings and surviving a 4 run 3rd inning to win a barn burner 11-9. Parker Orr added another home run in the victory, and Tyler Sellers battled for his 4th win of the season.
The Chargers move to 22-10 on the season and 8-5 in GCAA action heading into a week that includes 3 9 inning games against 3 different GCAA opponents. The Chargers will host ABAC at LakePoint on Monday night at 5PM before traveling to West Georgia Tech on Wednesday and completing the week with a 5th and final game vs Gordon at home on Friday night.
