Georgia Highlands welcomed #2 Walters State this weekend for a 3 game series at Lakepoint, and Chargers skipper Dash O'Neill sent freshman Dalton Rhadans to the mound to get things going against the Senators. Rhadans responded by twirling a gem, shutting out the high powered Senator offense in a nail biting 1-0 victory for GHC. Rhadans allowed just 3 hits on the afternoon, walked just one batter, and struck out 7 in the effort. O'Neill had high praise for his freshman righthander "Dalton just went out and made pitches when he needed to. He is a really tough competitor, and I think he just had the mentality that he was going to throw his game. There's a reason those guys are ranked as high as they are, and to a win a 1-0 ballgame against them is no small feat, especially for a freshman."
Blake Brady drove in the only runs the Chargers would score in the contest,a dn thanks to Rhadans, it was the only run they would need. The rest of the series did not go as well for Highlands. Though they played tough, Walters State capitalized on minstakes in games 2 and 3 to take the series from the Chargers.
GHC's scheduled doubleheader against LaGrange College on Monday has been postponed to a later date, so the Chargers, now 8-3 on the year, will host Lincoln Trail in a non conference series this weekend. Game 1 is scheduled fro Friday at 6PM with the doubleheader to follow on Sunday.
