With their GCAA schedule just around the corner, the GHC Chargers completed their non conference schedule on Monday and Tuesday with sweeps of Tennessee Wesleyan and Scoutz USA Post Grad. GHC took both ends of Monday's doubleheader with Tennessee Wesleyan by routing the Bulldogs 15-4 in game 1 and 17-0 in game 2. On Tuesday, the Chargers continued to stay hot in the first game, defeating the Pirates from SUSA Post Grad 10-2. The nightcap came with a little more drama, as Chase Townsend threw the second no hitter in program history (and this season) in a 3-0 victory.
Townsend faced 2 hitters over the minimum, striking out 9, walking 1 and hitting one batter. Head Coach Dash O'Neill was proud of his right hander. "Chase had all of his pitches working today. He was dialed in and just did a great job of competing. He deserves all the credit, and I'm proud of him for finishing the way he did. We probably don't win the ballgame if he doesn't put us on his back right there." Ryan Getz, Baylor Akin, and Conner Perry also collected victories on the mound for GHC. Perry improved his record to 4-0 on the year and punched out 8 Pirates in a complete game performance against SUSA Post Grad.
Brandon Prince led the offense this week, going 6-11 at the plate with 2 home runs, a double, 4 RBIS, 8 runs scored, and 9 stolen bases. David Smith added 2 homers to his tally on the week and Gavin Harmon hit his second big fly of the season. Palmer Sapp drove in 6 runs in 3 games during the week as the Chargers outscored their opponents 45-6.
GHC is now 21-3 on the season heading into the weekend when they will host Andrew College for a GCAA doubleheader at 2PM on Saturday at Lakepoint.
