Chargers Claim Trojan Horse Trophy With Sweep of Triton College

Its not often a college baseball team has a chance to bring home some hardware before the post season, but that's exactly what the Georgia Highlands Chargers did on Thursday night.  The Chargers took possession of Triton College's "Trojan Horse" trophy by sweeping the Trojans in four games this week.

GHC captured game three of the Battle for the Trojan Horse with their second walk off victory of the week.  There five lead changes in the ball game, culminating with a Trace Twardoski RBI double to seal the deal.  Zach Valentine earned his third win of the season pitching 2 innings in relief while striking out a pair of Trojans.  Johnny Dow survived 4 errors behind him to keep the Chargers in the game and the GHC offense was paced by two hit performances from Joe Sutton and Mickey Maguire.

The fourth and final game of the series was less dramatic.  The Chargers jumped out to a 5 run lead in the bottom of the first inning before cruising to a 12-2 victory.  Palmer Sapp had 3 hits including a 3 run home run to lead the 12 run attack.  Chase Townsend notched his 4th win of the year after allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 strike outs in a complete game effort.

Brandon Prince was in the middle of every major rally this week, and he collected 5 hits, scored 5 runs, stole 6 bases, and drove in 4 RBIs en route to being named series MVP.

Head Coach Dash O'Neill was proud of his team and is hopeful that the series will return again next year.  "This was pretty cool.  When Torg (Triton Head Coach Harry Torgerson) suggested we do this I thought it was a great idea.  I'm sure they are going to want to come down here next year to try and get this Trojan Horse back, but for now our guys are enjoying the feeling of playing for something you can hold in your hands.  It was a great series with a couple of walk of wins, and we had so many guys really step up and make an impact.  We'll enjoy this for a couple of days and then put it in the trophy case for safe keeping and get ready to roll again next week."

The Chargers are now 17-3 on the year and will be back in action on Monday against Tennessee Wesleyan at Lakepoint.  First pitch is at 3pm.
