Georgia Highlands College welcomed over forty former student athletes back to campus on Saturday to celebrate the first ever baseball and softball alumni day in school history. The event was sponsored by Shane's Rib Shack of Cartersville, who provided a barbecue lunch for the alums prior to game time. Head Coach Dash O'Neill beamed with pride as he looked out at the gathering. "These guys are really what its all about. So many of them brought their wives and children,a nd alot of the families showed up as well. It just goes to show what GHC baseball means to these young men and the impact we've been able to make."
The current Chargers held up their end of the bargain, too. Having already beaten the Trojans twice on Friday (6-5 & 11-4),GHC came from behind in the first game of the afternoon to claim a 4-3 win over the vistitors from Central Alabama Community College. They followed that with a decisive 7-3 victory in the nightcap, completing a four game weekend sweep and pushing their record to 6-0 on the young season. Oliver Wood, Kyle Stephenson, Brodie Chestnutt, and Trip Dovale were the winning pitchers on the weekend, and Andrew Arnold, Hunter Ward, and Logan Spivey each recorded a save in the series.
The Chargers host Lincoln Trail College in a four game series Friday and Saturday this week. Games start at 1PM both days.
