The GHC Women opened conference play on the road tonight, traveling to Griffin, GA to take on the Tigers of Southern Crescent Technical College. When they boarded the bus to return to Rome, they had easily handled the Tigers, winning 104-44.
The contest stayed close in the 1st quarter with 2 ties and 2 lead changes as the Chargers held at small 16-12 lead heading into the 2nd quarter. As the half wore on, SCTC's lack of depth (they only have 6 players on the roster) allowed the Chargers to wear them down and outscore the Tigers 27-10 for the quarter and take a 43-22 lead into the half.
The second half saw the Chargers continue to build their lead by outscoring the Tigers 28-8 in the 3rd quarter and 33-14 in the 4th. The Lady Chargers were paced with three 20-point scorers. Nijeria Jordan led the way with 24, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jahnaria Brown had 22 and grabbed 9 boards. Ja'Lyn Reese recorded the Chargers first double-double of the young season with with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also added 6 assists. Rounding out the team leaders for GHC were O'Mariyah Tucker with 10 points and 5 boards and PG Sandra Lin with 7 assists. For the game GHC shot almost 50% from the floor while holding SCTC to23% shooting. The only negative for the Chargers were the 25 turnovers they committed; a trend the team must correct as they move forward in the season.
With the win, GHC's record for the season stands at 3-2. The team now gets a short break with no games this weekend. They return to action on Wednesday, November 20, on the road against South Georgia Technical College. The Lady Jets are the 3-time defending GCAA Champions and one of the favorites again this year. This is an important early-season contest for the Lady Chargers. Make sure to follow GHC Athletics on Twitter (@ghc_athletics) for updates.
