The Georgia Highlands Softball team played five games in Florida this past weekend including two opening games at Lake Sumter before closing out a three game series Saturday at the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida.  

The Chargers found themselves behind in game one 5-0 in the first inning but would not surrender another run the rest of the outing.  Micayla McCoy would take the loss allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits in 0.1 innings of work.  Shay Sullins would come in relief allowing one unearned run in the 1st but only allowing 2 hits and 7 strikeouts in her 5.2 innings of work.  Mackenzie Vanderhorst, Sally Fairbank, and Mya Adams would record the Chargers only three hits in the game.

Game two, the bats would wake up for the Chargers as they would score 6 runs on 6 hits.  However, the three errors would be costly as Lake-Sumter would walk-off with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Kindell Reeves started the game allowing 5 runs on 4 hits while striking out four.  Sullins would come back in for relief for the last 2.2 innings recording the loss allowing 2 runs on four hits.  Six different chargers recorded a hit on the game.

Day two at the JUCO Kickoff Classic would be the turning point for the weekend as the Chargers swept the three game series.  Vanderhorst, Reeves, and Alia Booth would all hit above 0.400 for the weekend while Booth also lead the way with 6 RBI's.  Sullins led the Chargers in the circle with a 1.00 ERA in 14 innings of work with one win, a save, and 9 strikeouts.  McCoy was not far behind with a 1.75 ERA in 12 innings of work earning two wins, a save, 3 strikeouts, and the first complete game of the season.
