Its Bombs Away as Chargers Softball Sweeps Andrew in Monday Night Doubleheader

Monday night, Star’s field became a launch pad as the Chargers smacked 23 hits and six home runs including a Grand Slam in two games versus Andrew College.  

Game one Maggie Schandera started on the mound for the Chargers, holding the Tigers to a total of two earned runs on four hits. Only one run scored for the Tigers in the top of the second, and then no more runs scored until the Tigers scored one in the top of the sixth. Schandera also struck one out. 

The scoring for the Chargers was opened in the bottom of the second inning by Annsley Todd, who hit a line drive bouncing off the pitcher’s leg and rolling to the second baseman, scoring Taryn Hitchcock from third baseLater in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the Chargers down 2-1, Natalia Herrera takes one deep to left field scoring Madison Bennett and herself putting the Chargers up by one run. This homer proved to be the go ahead and winning run as Chargers take game one 2-3.  

Herrera hit 2-3 in the game with that two-run homer, and Izzy Marcotte also hit 2-3 in the game with a double. Taryn Hitchcock recorded a double. Bennett and Todd both recorded singles as well in game one.  

 

Game two featured four homeruns, a Grand Slam, and a one hitter pitching appearance for the Chargers.  

Out of the gate the Chargers went up 0-4 in the bottom of the first inning, and seven more runs in the bottom of the second, one in the bottom of the fourth, and three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers only scored one run in the top of the fourth inningThe Chargers won game two, completing the sweep of the day with a final score of 1-15, in five innings.  

Montana Ledbetter pitched the one-hitter for the Chargers. Out of the 18 batters faced she struck out 11 of the Tiger’s offense, and only allowed one hitand one run the entire game.  

Hailey Cronic blasted the grand slam for the chargers in the bottom of the second. Cronic went 2-3 with five RBIs on the day, with the double and the grand slam. Madison Bennett hit 3-4 with two RBIs including a homerun of her own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lacey Rutledge hit 2-3 with a double and a homerun. Kyndal Brown smacked a homerun in the bottom of the third, and Hannah Bobo hit her first collegiate homerun to deep center in the bottom of the fourth inning 

Allison Daffron went 2-3 with two doubles in the game, and Alexis Poole hit 2-3 with two singles. Izzy Marcotte hit a double with two RBIs. Natalia Herrera and Bradey Tharp also recorded hits in game two as well.
