Hughes Notches First Win as Head Coach

Cartersville, GA. -- The Georgia Highlands College softball program started the season off in good fashion defeating Calhoun Comunity College 8-0 and 11-10 to open up the new stadium. 

Game 1:

The Chargers got off to a hot start to start the season. Freshman, Grace Kendrick, took the mound recording the first ever start on the Chargers new softball complex. Kendrick not only made history with the start, but she recorded the first ever strikout including the first in her career. Kendrick went on to take the win, scattering 4 hits and fanning 4 across 4 solid innings. The Chargers saw incredible relief appearances from sophomore, Jayce Hand, and freshman, Hayden Joyner. Joyner recorded her first strikeout of her career and ended the game with 3. 

The Chargers offense exploded early in the game which was led by both freshman, Ally Graden and Hayden Joyner. The outfield unit scattered 4 of the 7 Charger hits including the game ending double by Joyner. Freshman, Raegan Ford, added production to the Charger offense recording a hit and 2 RBI's. Cayden Warren made history by recording the first ever stole base at the new complex.

Game 2:

The Chargers struggled early in game 2 of the day, but found ways to walk away with the win. Sophiomore, Jaycie Hand, was tabbed the game 2 starter and finished with 1 strikout across 2 innings. Freshman, Hayden Joyner, took command of the game going 3.2 innings to allow the Charger offense to get going again. Freshman, Grace Kendrick, finished the game for the Chargers going 1.1 innings, fanning 3 and walking away with her second win of the day.

The Chargers offense was led by Freshman, Haylee Dishmon, who scattered 3 hits and recorded her first career stolen base. Freshman, Ally Graden and Aliza Martinez, both recorded 2 hits each while driving in 4 RBI's. Sophomore, Cailey Barnett, jumped in the action recording a hit including 2 RBI's. 

 

The Chargers notched their first win of the Tucker Hughes era, as Hughes collected his first win as a collegiate head coach.
