The Chargers made the long trip to Americus , Georgia and came away with a hard fought 82-80 win over the Jets of South Georgia Tech. The Chargers got off to a fast start opening the game on 15 to 5 run but the Jets came roaring back to tie the game at the 8:00 minute mark of the first half. Both teams traded baskets with the Jets taking a 2 point lead into the half 40-38.
South Georgia Tech controlled the game most of the second half leading by as many as 8 points midway through the second half, but GHC keep the game within reach. The Chargers found themselves down by one, 80-79 with 14 seconds left in regulation. the Chargers in-bounded the ball and found an open Khalyl Watters slicing to the basket for a layup to put the Chargers up 81-80 with 6.4 second left. South Georgia Tech had one last attempt and it fell short. DeMarcus Addie added a foul shot to extend lead to 82-80 and seal the win.
"TaJuan Johnson had a monster second half scoring 15 points and controlling the game. this was a great win in a tough environment," said Charger head coach Phill Gaffney.
Johnson led all scorers with 15 points, D'Andre Bernard with 15 points, Khalyl Watters with 14, and Shae Brown with 11. The Chargers (16-7, 9-1 in conference play) return to action on Wednesday at home versus South Georgia State. Tip off 7:30pm.
