The Chargers were looking to win their third game in a row on Thursday when they hosted Preeminence Academy at the Corral. At the end, the Chargers had no trouble putting away the overmatched Cobras.
After an early 2-2 tie, the Chargers went on a 26-0 run to open up a 28-2 lead and never looked back. GHC would ride an amazing 77% shooting from the floor in the first half to a 66-20 lead at the break. They would cool off slightly in the second half, shooting 54% as they cruised to the 121-51 victory. Another bright spot for the Chargers was from the free-throw line where they have struggled at times this year. The team was able to hit 13-18 (73%) for the game.
The large lead provided Coach Merritt the opportunity to get everyone some quality minutes on the court. It also allowed every GHC player to score in the contest. Trevin Wade had a game-high 25 points to lead six Chargers in double-figures. R.J. Campbell had his best game of the season going 7-7 from the floor and 4-5 from the line for 18 points. He also grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds. Carl Johnson had 16 points and 7 assists, while shooting 4-7 from behind the arc. Langston Wilson (16), Nicolas Huteau (12) and Cahiem Brown (11) rounded out the double-digit scorers for GHC.
The Chargers improve their record to 6-4 on the season. They return to action at the Corral against New Rock Prep on Wednesday, December 11. Tip-off is at 7:30PM. That game is preceded by the GHC Women taking on Andrew College at 5:30PM. Mark your calendars to come out and support both the Charger teams.
